Niclas Hermansson, a Swedish writer and language teacher, was born in 1974 and raised by his loving parents, Carl-Gustaf and Sara, in the small town of Hook, located 30 km from Jönköping. Growing up with his younger brother in a family estate surrounded by the picturesque forests of Småland and located by a serene lakeside, Niclas developed an early affinity for literature and art. His parents, who were avid readers, ensured that their home was filled with thousands of books covering a wide range of subjects. This nurturing environment sparked his love for reading, writing, and creativity from a young age.
As he grew older, Niclas became fascinated with languages, studying French, German, Czech, and Japanese. His interest in Japanese was fueled by his passion for kendo, a traditional Japanese martial art. More recently, he has developed an interest in other Slavic languages and the Cyrillic alphabet. This linguistic curiosity eventually shaped his career path, leading him to become a language teacher at a senior high school in 2004. Despite his primary focus on languages, which he studied at the University of Skövde and the University of Prague, Niclas also explored various other disciplines, including marketing at Linnaeus University, computer science at Jönköping University, economics at the University of Gothenburg, and pedagogy at Lund University.
His lifelong fascination with history, especially that of ancient civilizations, has greatly influenced his writing. An avid traveler, Niсlas is always drawn to places rich in historical significance, with Rome being his favorite destination due to his deep admiration for the Roman Empire. Alongside his historical pursuits, he has a keen interest in science fiction and dystopian narratives, both in literature and film.
Niсlas draws significant inspiration from authors like Philip K. Dick, whose explorations of reality, identity, and paranoia captivate him; Sven Lindqvist, whose blend of historical analysis and personal narrative offers a compelling link between past and present; and George Orwell, his literary idol, whose vivid portrayals of dystopian societies use fiction as a powerful means of political and social commentary.
Apart from his literary pursuits, Niсlas is also a passionate board game designer (the author of numerous Pyramid Boardgames), combining his love for strategy, storytelling, and world-building. In 2024, he expanded his creative reach by launching three YouTube channels, each dedicated to a different passion. Dark Futures explores dystopian worlds, delving into themes from his favorite novels and films alongside his own creative interpretations. Star Wars Opinions is a space where he shares his thoughts, analyses, and theories about the Star Wars franchise. Forgotten WWII brings attention to lesser-known or overlooked stories from World War II, uncovering hidden aspects of history. Through these platforms, Niclas fosters engaging discussions on speculative fiction, societal issues, and historical narratives, further enriching his exploration of storytelling and world-building.
Niсlas does not confine himself to writing only historical works; he also delves into genres such as fantasy, science fiction, detective stories, and drama. His creative process is often driven by sudden bursts of inspiration, leading him to write through the night—he considers himself a night owl. Niсlas is married and shares his home with two beloved cats, who add warmth and comfort to his creative sanctuary.
Overall, Niсlas Hermansson’s life is a vibrant tapestry of linguistic exploration, historical passion, creative storytelling, and a deep engagement with dystopian themes, making him a unique voice in contemporary literature.
